Daryl
Santos is a Professor in the Systems Science and Industrial
Engineering (SSIE) Department. He earned his Bachelor of Science
degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from
Cornell University in 1987. He received the masters and doctorate
degrees in Industrial Engineering in 1990 and 1993, respectively,
from the University of Houston. His graduate research work focused
on the scheduling of complex manufacturing environments, known
as hybrid flow shops, of which processes in semiconductor manufacturing
and electronics assembly - among many other enterprises - are
characterized.
After receiving his PhD, Daryl joined Binghamton University
in May 1994 as a post-doctoral researcher working in conjunction
with the SSIE Department and the Integrated Electronics Engineering
Center (IEEC). In January 1995, he joined the faculty of the
SSIE Department as an Professor. Daryl has been
very active in electronics packaging research (with much of
the work in Pb-free assembly) in on-campus research activities
(primarily through the IEEC) and in externally funded research
projects with industry and federal sponsors. In conjunction
with his electronics packaging research, he manages the surface
mount assembly facility located in the SSIE laboratories.
Daryl has supervised over 40 graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) research
theses and typically supervises around 7-10 graduate students.
He has authored or co-authored over 80 research articles (in
refereed journals and conference proceedings) most of which
are in the electronics packaging domain. A recipient of the
SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2005),
Daryl also attended (Summer 2006) as a Visiting Professor
at South Korea's premiere technical university (Korea Advanced
Institute of Science and Technology - KAIST).
