Howard Wang
Associate Professor

Howard Wang is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering at the Binghamton University. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Physics from the Peking University in 1992, and received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1999. After completing his postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Wang joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Michigan Technological University as an Assistant Professor in 2002. Wang moved to Binghamton University in 2006.

Wang's research focuses on materials aspects of advancing nanotechnology and biotechnology. His interdisciplinary research program integrates nanomaterials synthesis, characterization, processing, and application. His group's recent studies involve synthesizing carbon nanotubes, metal oxide nanowires, metal nanoparticles, dispersing nano-objects in solutions, gels, polymers and ceramics, assembling them into ordered structures, and fabricating flexible electronics, nanocomposites and biosensors for applications. Wang emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary approaches and fundamental understandings at nano-soft-biomaterials interfaces in advancing nano-biotechnology.

He has authored or co-authored over 60 technical publications in refereed journals, book chapters and conference proceedings, covering topics on nanomaterials, polymers, colloids, emulsions, bio-membranes, thin films, flow processing, low-k materials, etc. Wang is a scientific member of Bohmische Physical Society since 2000 and a recipient of the NSF Career Award.
