Dr. Ying Sun
Assitant Professor

Dr. Ying Sun joined the Watson School as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2006. She obtained her B.Eng. degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees both from the University of Iowa. Dr. Sun was also a visiting scholar at RWTH-Aachen, Germany and worked as research engineer in industry.

Dr. Sun’s research interests include multiscale modeling of transport phenomena in materials processing, colloidal suspension dynamics, thermal management in electronics packaging, and other areas of multiphase flow and transport. Her group’s recent studies involve fluid dynamics and multiphase transport in printable electronics, directed self-assembly of colloidal suspensions, atomistic modeling of reactive wetting, phonon transport in nanomaterials and interfaces, and underfill process enhancement for flip-chip packages.

Dr. Sun has authored or co-authored over 20 technical publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings. She is a member of ASME, APS, and TMS.
